Drew Templeman, Orting
Among the best Male athletes in the state high school ranks, Pierce County had what most consider the three finest in 2012. Drew Templeman of Orting had to achieve national prominence to win the honor of TAC Male Athlete of the Year and he did so with “gusto.”
Drew was a four-time Washington State wrestling champion at Orting high and compiled a gaudy record of 144 wins and four losses. He was the 8th ranked prep wrestler in the nation as a first team All-American. He also was one of only eight wrestlers in state history to win four straight titles.
The only wrestler in state history to win four individual state championships and four team state titles, .Templeman will be wrestling at the University of Wyoming next year. With a 3.77 GPA he was Orting’s Student of the Month for March of 2012, at the height of the wrestling season.
Among his honors, Drew was the News Tribune’s Wrestler of the Year twice, and a three-time member of the Tribune’s All-Area wrestling team. The Seattle Times named him Athlete of the Week in February and he was selected to the first team All-Western Region at 126 pounds. That region stretches over eight states from Arizona to California to Nevada to Utah to Idaho and Montana.
When it comes to the sport of wrestling in Washington , “pin” Drew Templeman’s name at the top of the list. The TAC salutes him and his remarkable high school record. It was 43-0 his senior year.
