John Everett started officiating when he was in the Army in 1958, stationed in Italy. He joined the Western Washington Umpires Association in 1963, departed for his native Connecticut for many years then came back to Tacoma and a leadership role with the WWUA for much of the past several decades.
In 2000, John became the USSSA softball Umpire-in-Chief for the Pierce County area. The position made him responsible for all area tournaments and league play for USSSA. John has umpired numerous recreational World, District, and State tournaments. He has also been an umpire for seven WIAA state high school tournaments.
John has been president of Western Washington Umpires Association twice, and a Board member for at least 15 years. His community service in that time includes working with apprentice umpires, conducting clinics for players and coaches and being the spokesman for USSSA.
