Mark Stricherz, Boy's Basketball
For Mark Stricherz, refereeing has always been a family affair. Following a stellar prep basketball career at Washington High School in Parkland, Stricherz joined his father Ed and brother Jay among the ranks of basketball referees in 1975 when he took up the family pinstripe pastime.
He has earned many accolades for his officiating of local basketball at the high school and college level. In 2011, Mark was recognized with the Dave Kerrone Official of the Year award by the Western Washington Basketball Officials Association.
Mark refereed 13 seasons of community college basketball and five years of Northwest small college ball. He has also officiated at eight high school state tournaments across all WIAA classifications.
He has been selected by the coaches of the local Class 3A leagues as Official of the Year three times. Mark was a standout scorer at Washington High School (’73) and played at Tacoma Community College. He was the Pierce County Hoop Shoot Champion in 1969 and 1970.
Stricherz lives in Spanaway and has worked as a teacher for the past 36 years in the Bethel School District. He graduated from University of Puget Sound in 1977.
