The fourth annual TAC Celebrity Classic was another successful event and a new tournament scoring record was set by “Terry’s Terrors”. A team captained by TAC Treasurer Terry Ziegler tallied a 6-under round of 21 to take a one-shot edge over two other teams. Ziegler was unable to perform due to surgery but his team-mates had a trio of birdies on the first three holes to edge Rob Tillotson’s entry and that of a host team from the Highlands golf course. The champs were Jim Merritt, Roger Lilley, Andy Ritting, Dick Zierman and Steve Milligan. The defending champion Names family was another shot back. The 9-hole “Scramble” format featured hole-in-one prizes on every hole, including a 2016 Buick Verano from the Harnish Auto Family on the finishing green. The celebrities who added to the festivities were Dave Harshman, TAC President and a Coaching Legend (Michigan State’s national champs with Magic Johnson), Roger Iverson and Jim Van Beek, former PLU All-Americans, Ron Crowe, an all-time Western Washington U. hoop star, Rick Walker and Mark Wells of UPS national championship basketball fame, Clint Scott, one of the Loggers best-ever placekickers, and Joey Waters, former Tacoma Stars Soccer "great." They were joined by youthful Joe Lyon of Bellarmine Prep, winner of the TAC’s Clay Huntington Sports Communication Scholarship (headed for USC) and a standout performer on both golf and tennis teams who competed for the state championship this year. The event lived up to its name: there are celebrities indeed, and it’s a Classic!
