Brie Felnagle, born December 9, 1986 is among the greatest middle distance runners ever from Tacoma. A 2005 graduate of Bellarmine Prep, the 12-time All American is a graduate student at the University of North Carolina competing in her final collegiate track season.
Brie was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Indoor Track & Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2009. A three-time NCAA champion, she placed fifth in the 3000 meters at the NCAA Indoor Championships to earn her 12th All-America honor. She was also the ACC Indoor Track & Field Scholar of the Year and a recipient of the Athletic Director's Scholar Award in 2009.
Her personal best times in everything from the 600 meters to 5000 meters are among the best in UNC history. Her 1500-meter time of 4:08.54 is the Tar Heels record. She competed in the U.S. Olympic Trials in the 1500 in 2008. Her times in the mile (4:32.17) and 3000 meters (9:00.31) are second best all-time at UNC.
Brie was the National Champion in the 1500 at the NCAA Outdoor National Championships as a sophomore. She also ran the final leg for the 2007 national champion distance medley relay team, garnering All-America honors and setting a new American record. She was also a member of the Tar Heels' DMR national champion her freshman year.
At Bellarmine, Brie won the 4A state cross country meet twice, won six state championship track races, and was part of two state champion teams. She was also the 2004 Gatorade Track and Field Athlete of the Year in the state.
