2026 Tribute to Champions

Join Us for the 2026 Tribute to Champions

The 2026 Tribute to Champions is a special evening celebrating the athletes, coaches, officials, families, administrators, and community leaders who have helped shape sports in Tacoma and Pierce County.

This year’s event will be held on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at the McGavick Conference Center in Lakewood. The evening will be hosted by King 5 Sports’ Chris Egan and will include a non-alcoholic dessert social, sports memorabilia, wine and golf packages, specialty baskets, a live auction, and award presentations.

The event begins at 5:00 PM with the dessert social and auction activities. A live auction featuring three marquee items will take place from 6:00 to 6:15 PM, followed by award presentations from 6:30 to 8:15 PM. The first 250 guests will also receive a free copy of Playgrounds to the Pros, with free autographs available from several local sports figures.

This year’s celebration will honor the 2026 Tacoma-Pierce County Sports Hall of Fame inductees, Distinguished Achievement Award recipients, Excellence in Officiating honorees, the First Family of Sports Award recipients, coaching and lifetime achievement award winners, and the Dick Hannula Amateur Athlete of the Year recipients.  Click here to see a full list of all of the honorees

Auction to benefit Tacoma Pierce County Sports Museum 2026

Support Local Sports History at the Tribute to Champions Silent Auction

Sports fans, collectors, and community supporters will have a special opportunity to take home unique auction items while supporting a great local cause at the 2026 Tribute to Champions Banquet and Hall of Fame Inductions.

The event will be held on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at the McGavick Conference Center. As part of the evening, guests are invited to participate in a Silent Auction (click here to see silent auction items) featuring a wide variety of items, from sports memorabilia and local experiences to travel, golf, wine tasting, and handcrafted team quilts.

The Silent Auction opens at 5:00 PM and closes at 6:15 PM, so guests are encouraged to arrive early, browse the items, and be ready to bid. All proceeds from the auction will benefit the Tacoma-Pierce County Sports Museum, helping preserve and celebrate the rich sports history of our community.

Featured auction items include a VIP “Day at the Races” package at Emerald Downs, a wine tasting experience at Mosquito Fleet Winery, a “Play Ball” package with the Seattle Mariners, golf packages from area courses, autographed Seattle Seahawks items, a Pete Rose autographed bat, a Phoenix condo stay during Spring Training season, and custom-designed Mariners and Seahawks quilts.

This is a great chance to find something special, honor local sports history, and support the museum’s ongoing work. Whether you are a lifelong fan, a collector, a golfer, a wine enthusiast, or simply someone who loves supporting community traditions, there will be something worth bidding on.

Unable to attend the auction in person? Absentee bids are welcome. To place an absentee bid, contact Colleen Barta at colleenhallbarta@gmail.com or 253-208-9702.

Join us, place your bids, and help support the Tacoma-Pierce County Sports Museum!

NxtGen Baseball and Softball Camps Return to Cheney Stadium

Tacoma-area baseball and softball families have a great opportunity this summer as NxtGen Baseball and Softball Camps return to Cheney Stadium.

Hosted by former Mariner and current Mariners broadcaster Ryan Rowland-Smith, these camps give young athletes the chance to build their skills, learn from experienced players, and spend time in a positive, encouraging environment. Camps are open to athletes ages 6–13, and all skill levels are welcome.

Each day includes motivational talks, on-field drills, skill development, and character-building lessons designed to inspire players both on and off the field. Sibling discounts are available, and Tacoma families can also use promo code weRtacoma at sign-up for a $20 discount.

Special NxtGen camp opportunities will also include Mariners pitcher Bryce Miller and future Mariners shortstop Colt Emerson, giving young athletes the chance to learn from players they watch and admire.

Space is limited, so families are encouraged to sign up early and share this opportunity with teammates, coaches, and other local families.

What is the Youth Sports Fund?

What is the Youth Sports Fund?

The Youth Sports Fund is a new program for the Tacoma Athletic Commission (TAC) that provides assistance to programs or individuals in need of support. With the leadership of the Executive Board and a Youth Sport Committee, we receive requests from all Pierce County Schools and individual students’ requests. We review all requests and make decisions on which ones we will support.  The funds that support this program come from our annual golf, betting pools from the Apple Bowl, Super Bowl, March Madness, and individual donors.

With recent gifts, we funded a young lady who desperately needed a pair of new basketball shoes because she would have probably hurt herself playing in the old pair. It was fun to watch this young person receive new shoes with a smile and be more confident playing in her new shoes. Another gift went to a 13-year-old girl who has always had an interest in golf, but with Youth Sports funds, we were able to purchase her golf lessons. This recipient currently lives with her grandparents, and they are overjoyed to see their granddaughter fulfilling her dream.

This year, the TAC received a large gift from the Cheney Foundation, and the Executive Board agreed to use some of those funds in the Youth Sports Fund. So, we funded several Middle and Senior high schools with new uniforms. This isn’t the largest fund, but if you know of any youth in need of support, please contact Phil Carter.
