The Tacoma Athletic Commission, serving all high schools in Tacoma and Pierce County, Is honored to award the 2022–2023 Clay Huntington Sports Communications Award to Andrew Perdue. Andrew wrote, “My career goals have been related to sports broadcasting since before high school began. My dad, an A2 audio technician, would always be out of town working on some major event. I remember being in awe, watching him go to every home Mariner game, Seahawks game, Sounders, Storm, and even major events like Super Bowls. I knew that this was the field I wanted to go into from a very young age, and it wasn’t long before I picked up a camera and started working on my goals.” Inspired by his high school broadcast teacher Charlie Hilen, Andrew began working as the director of the news show at Bonney Lake High School. He has directed podcasts and hosted live sporting events over the past few years. With modern broadcasting equipment at Bonney Lake, Andrew has learned how to organize and develop programs and use industry-level equipment to create professional programming. Recently he began working in Seattle with all kinds of Sports Broadcast. He has worked with the Sea Dragons, Sounders, Kraken, March Madness, and Mariners. Andrew plans to work this summer for the MLB during the All-Star break. Andrew decided to attend the Murrow College of Broadcasting at WSU. He considered the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism at Arizona State but opted for WSU after meeting Kanale Rhoden, the broadcast professor at Washington State. Andrew said, “ Going to one of the premiere broadcasting schools in America next year, I am so excited to take the leap forward in my career and pursue my dreams in sports broadcasting. “ Andrew excelled in the classroom and posted high scores on the Advanced Placement test and high SAT scores. Beyond academics, he is ASB vice-president, Swim and Dive Captain, Tacoma Athletic Commission Athlete of the Year, and a Tech Coordinator at Bonney Lake. The Tacoma Athletic Commission proudly presents Andrew Perdue with the 2023 Clay Huntington Sports Communication Award. Andrew’s passion for sports broadcasting and involvement in his community both celebrates and represents the legacy of Clay Huntington, a founder of the TAC.
