The Tacoma Athletic Commission, serving all high schools in Tacoma and Pierce County, is honored to award the 2021–2022 Clay Huntington Sports Communications Scholarship to Cassidy Collins. During her time at Cascade Christian, Collins was involved in cheerleading, track and field, theater and the ASB. Outside of school she has volunteered her time with the Auburn food bank, Winter Wishes, Orting Junior Cheer and multiple other causes. As Collins transitions to the next phase of her education she says that her goal is to enter into the field of communication with a goal of being an anchor on national television. She has said that she wants, “to be a light for young women looking to go into broadcasting to show them that even if you come from a small town, you are capable of big things.”When Collins describes her vision for the future and how she plans to utilize her education she says, “I plan on using not only my education but my platform to spread awareness on important topics to my community, as well as giving back by mentoring. I plan to provide young pupils with an opportunity to learn about not only sports broadcasting but communications as a whole. This will enable them to become more literate in a day, and age where media is so prevalent it becomes confusing. I intend to educate my community on what a reliable source looks like, how to identify false information, and how to form an opinion.” From a Cascade Christian cougar to next being a WSU cougar, Collins remarked that she hopes her studies will equip her with the skills to become flexible in all ranges of media, whether that be sports, politics, or current events. It is an honor for the Tacoma Athletic Commission to recognize Cassidy Collins with the Clay Huntington Sports Communications Scholarship for the 2021–22 school year.
