The Tacoma Athletic Commission serving all high schools in Tacoma and Pierce County, proudly presents the Tom Names Female Inspirational Athlete of the Year to Emersyn Walker of Charles Wright Academy. Walker, a three-sport athlete, played golf, volleyball, and basketball each year. In her freshman year, she was a member of the CWA volleyball team that finished second in the 1A State Championship. Walker was a force on the basketball and volleyball courts, but her best sport was girls golf. She won two individual 1A State Championships in golf, and she might have won four had COVID not taken away two of her golf seasons. This year, she shot an incredible 67 on the final day to come from behind to win. Walker has nerves of steel, and her coaches always wanted her with the ball with games on the line. In her recruiting biography, Walker wrote, “I have been playing golf my entire life and love the game. I started playing tournament golf with the Washington Junior Golf Association when I was eight years old. I practice every day throughout the spring and the summer. During the fall and winter, I play volleyball and basketball for my high school, yet I manage my time to continue to practice throughout the winter months. My motto in life is “Love God. Love others,” and I feel that I represent this within my character every day. I am often referred to as an “old soul” and am told that I am wise beyond my years. I am grateful for my parents and all the sacrifices they have made along the way. I feel that with my mental strength, persistence, care for others, and hardworking nature, I will be a great asset to a collegiate golf team. In the coming years, I will focus on mental toughness and staying in the moment.” While Emersyn Walker is an outstanding athlete, she is best known around Charles Wright for her incredible voice. As a 9th grader, she sang the National Anthem at the Tom Names Salute to Sports Program. She has sung many solos and has done well in state competitions. Walker is a once-in-a-lifetime athlete who also excels in the classroom and the performing arts. She will attend North Dakota State to play golf. The TAC is honored to name Emersyn Walker as the recipient of the Tom Names Female Inspirational Athlete of the Year for 2021–22.
