The Tacoma Athletic Commission, serving all high schools in Tacoma and Pierce County, proudly announces Matthew Janicki as the Tom Names Inspirational Male Athletic of the Year for 2021–22. The Tom Names Inspirational Scholarship is a $5000.00 Award. Matthew’s Athletic Director Suzanne Vick gives him the highest praise for his inspirational leadership on the football and lacrosse fields. In addition, she reports that his commitment and dedication to helping the Curtis athletic program be recognized as one of the best in the area is outstanding. He works with younger students, supports struggling students, and is always there to help teammates and players from other sports. Janicki’s football season was spectacular. He was recognized by the National Football Foundation for his play as a lineman for the Vikings team. His work ethic and focus helped the Curtis team to a successful season. Matthew encourages teams to strive to achieve their personal best during each practice and game. As a four-year varsity lacrosse player, he has improved each year tremendously. He has been the ground ball team leader the past two seasons and led Curtis to the 4A state championship bracket this year. Janicki won 85 percent of all faceoffs this year, and his accomplishments sound like a highlight reel. His sportsmanship, sense of humor, kindness, and grace makes him inspirational and standout. He is a coach’s dream, and his positive leadership made a difference. The TAC is pleased to announce Matthew Janicki as the Tom Names Inspirational Male Athlete for the 2021–22 school year.
