Lakes High School senior Kasey Hewitt has many talents and interests. But it wasn’t until she visited Washington State University for “Junior Day” that she discovered a field of study where she expects those talents and interests will crossover with enjoyable results.
On that WSU visit, Kasey was introduced to the Edward R. Murrow College of Communications and its nationally prominent broadcast journalism school. “Now I dream of reporting live from Martin Stadium as a sideline reporter, or writing for the Daily Evergreen and just possibly behind the desk of a local or even national broadcast team,” Kasey said.
She will take excellent credentials from Lakewood to Pullman. Kasey carries a 3.6 grade-point average at Lakes even while taking advanced-placement (AP) honors classes. She is a four-year Honor Roll member, the National Honor Society Historian and member a section leader in audition choir. Kasey also has earned three varsity letters on the Lancers dance team, two letters in swimming and participated in tennis. One day, she hopes to swim in every ocean on the planet.
Her well-rounded skills and personality also earned Kasey the honor of being named the 2015 Daffodil Princess for Lakes High. This selection provides Kasey the opportunity to be a goodwill ambassador for Pierce County. It’s the sort of experience that will help her pursue a broadcast journalism career.
“Whether it be in the press box, on the sidelines or behind a desk, it will always be important to me to be an excellent example,” she said. “I strive to be a mentor, make a difference and make those who have invested in me very proud.”
