The Tacoma Athletic Commission serving all high schools in Tacoma and Pierce County, is honored to name Ella Borsheim as the Sis Names Most Outstanding Female Athlete for the 2021–2022 school year. Disciplined, Accepting, Inquisitive, Authentic and Adaptable are five words that Borsheim would use to describe herself. These words are true in both her scholastic and athletic endeavors. As a student-athlete Borsheim has won the Washington State 4A Championship twice in Cross Country (2018 and 2021) and in 2022 won the4A 1600 Meter and took second in the 4A 3200 Meter in Track and Field. In addition to her State Championships Borsheim has also received multiple awards including being named the Gatorade Washington Girls Cross Country Player of the Year in 2018, SPSL running Athlete of the Year in 2019, has received three Athlete of the Year awards from the Tacoma Athletic Commission and in 2021 was awarded the Clint Names Multi Sport Excellence Award. Coach Matt Ellis said that, “Ella is a fantastic young runner. She’s very coachable and extremely self-motivated. More importantly, she’s most interested in the success of her teammates and the team overall.” Borsheim believes that, “running has taught me so many life lessons that transcend sports. It has taught me how to be a good teammate and the importance of contributing to something greater than yourself.” She continues to explain how running has taught her how to be both physically and mentally tough and has shown her the benefits of consistency and hard work over time. Borsheim adds that running has also taught her that, “success is never linear and how to be process-oriented by not over-interpreting any one success or failure.”In addition to her running successes, Borsheim is a 4.0 student. She has committed to University of Washington where she plans on pursuing a bioengineering major. When she is not studying or running, Borsheim tutors students near and far. She was an English tutor for Chinese students through the Novii program which raises money to donate musical instruments to underprivileged schools in South America. She planned and organized a fun run at Wright Park that raised money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and has participated in the Adopt a Family program for the past four years. It is an honor for the Tacoma Athletic Commission to recognize Ella Borsheim with the Sis Names Most Outstanding Female Athlete for the 2021–22 school year.
