The Tacoma Athletic Commission, serving all high schools in Tacoma and Pierce County, is honored to name Riley Peschek as the Sis Names Most Outstanding Female Athlete for the 2022-2023 school year.
Riley is an outstanding three-sport athlete from Gig Harbor High School. She started as a defender on the school’s state-bound soccer team and was the Most Valuable Player on the girls' basketball and fastpitch teams. In January, the Gig Harbor Now publication wrote, "Gig Harbor power forward Riley Peschek set a school record with 24 rebounds in the victory. Peschek was dominant, scoring 22 points with her school-record 24 rebounds. That total was one more rebound than any player who has ever worn a Gig Harbor jersey, boy or girl." Riley has been named the Tacoma Athletic Commission's Athlete of the Year in several sports. In basketball, Riley was a four-year varsity player named to 1st team all‐league, TNT all‐area team, and nominated for the all‐state game. Riley was recognized as the TNT Player of the Week. She finished second in the State for all schools in total rebounds and second in the State for all schools in Double-Doubles in a game with 18.
Riley committed to play Fastpitch at the University of Montana next year. In a recent game against Yelm, she hit a two-run home run in the last inning to carry the Tide to victory. Beyond the athletic arena, Riley excels in the classroom. Her love of learning is insatiable, and her curiosity opens many areas of interest for her. Her work ethic inside and outside the classroom has paid significant dividends. While her academic and athletic accomplishments are outstanding, Riley excels in another area of her life. Riley's commitment to community service is exceptional. Her coach wrote, "Riley has had the unique opportunity to partner with our Particular Education program as a PE buddy and peer mentor this school year. … Riley also volunteers with the Little Youth League and has helped the girls' programs grow to over 200 young female athletes pursuing Fastpitch, primarily due to her work with the program and being a great example of an excellent student-athlete playing Fastpitch. Riley works hard not only to be a great student-athlete but also a great person who contributes to making others feel welcome at Gig Harbor High School."
The Tacoma Athletic Commission proudly announces Riley Peschek from Gig Harbor High School as the recipient of the Sis Names Most Outstanding Female Athlete of the Year.
