The Tacoma Athletic Commission serving all high schools in Tacoma and Pierce County, is honored to name Joshua Wood as the Scott Names Most Outstanding Male Athlete for the 2021–2022 school year. Wood had an outstanding season playing quarter-back for the Graham-Kapowsin Eagles, and he led the Eagles to a 4A state football championship against Lake Stevens. After winning the championship, Wood led Graham-Kapowsin to defeat a nationally ranked powerhouse and the Georgia State 7A Champions Collins Hill Eagles 40–36. After exchanging scores back and forth during the game, Graham Kapowsin trailed and got one last chance to score. Joshua Wood would go three for three on his first three throws of the drive to get some rhythm going. As time ran out, Graham Kapowsin was 32 yards away from their endzone. Trailing 33–36 with less than 10 seconds to go, Wood threw a strike to the end zone to Stephen Mars for the go-ahead score. For his exploits on the gridiron, Wood has many achievements which include 2021 Gatorade Player of the Year in Washington, MAXPREPS 2021 High School Football Player of the Year for Washington State, 2021 Washington State Score Book Live Player of the Year, and 2021 SPSL Offensive Player of the Year. Wood committed to playing football at Fresno State. Beyond football, Wood was an outstanding basketball player for the Eagles. His quickness and athletic ability created nightmares for his opponents. His fellow players and coaches appreciated his work ethic, commitment to excellence, and determination to be a force. Wood was the basketball 2021 SPSL 4A 1st Team All-Leauge Guard and team captain. When he is not playing football or basketball Wood is taking an active role in his school and community. He was a four-year member of the Student Leadership Committee, member of the National Society of Highschool Scholars and donates his time to A Step Ahead of Pierce County, which supports families with infants and toddlers experiencing developmental delays or disabilities It is an honor for the Tacoma Athletic Commission to recognize Joshua Wood with the Scott Names Most Outstanding Male Athlete for the 2021–22 school year.
